Our time-traveling heroine...

Kagome Higurashi is the most main character, even though Inu is the namesake of the series. Kagome lives in Tokyo, Japan, in 1997 (that's when he show came out in Japan.) She lives on the Higurashi shrine, which includes the God Tree (Sacred Oak in dub) and the Bone Eaters Well. Kagome travels through the well on her fifteenth birthday to Sengoku Jidai and met Inu.

Kagome travels back and forth between times, but every time she goes to the fuedal era she stays longer then before. In one episode Shippou says she shouldstay with them forever. (Everything Happens on Togenkyo's Night Part 1) Kagome is doing worse and worse in school because she's almost never there. And, to top it all off, her grandfather keeps making up diseases as an excuse for her absence.

Kagome accidentaly shattered the Shikon no Tama and now she figures that she can make up for her mistake by joining Inu and collecting the Shikon no Takera (shikon shards).

Inu tried to kill her once before he knew who she was, because he thought she was Kikyo, the priestess who pinned him to the Sacred Oak. She is her reincarnation, and she looks just like Kikyo. (Even though I don't think so.) Kaede, Kikyo's little sister, put the magiccal rosary around Inu's neck. she told Kagome to say a dog command (to say a word of subjigation[sp?] in the dub) and Kagome yelled "OZUWARI!" ("Sit boy" in dub) and he hit the ground.

Kagome has miko power (priestess power) since she is Kikyo's reincarnation. Although before she met Inu she had never used a bow, she became good at it quick, and even starts taking lessons in her era. Kikyo was a "master archer" according to Inu. Kagome also has the power to sense and see the Shikon shards.

Kagome starts to feel certain affections for Inu along the way, and soon she realizes she's in love. She even admits her love for him to herself in one episode. In her era, though, a boy in her school named Hojo also likes her. (Even though he's like a comeplete "duh" head.)

Kagome brings things like food and first aid to Sengoku Jidai from her era. One things she brings are ramen noodles, which Inu loves to eat.
Kagome changed Sengoku Jidai forever.
